Police urge safety first for a fun-filled Halloween night

By News Reporter Gabby Cedano

As Halloween approaches, police departments across the country are reminding residents to celebrate safely and responsibly.

With communities hosting fall festivals, costume parades and trick-or-treating events, officers are urging everyone, especially parents and drivers,to take extra precautions to keep the night safe and enjoyable for all.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to accompany young children or ensure they’re supervised by a responsible adult. Costumes, strollers and wagons should include reflective materials or bright colors to increase visibility after dark. Children are also advised to carry flashlights or glow sticks to help them see and be seen as they walk from house to house.

Drivers are asked to remain vigilant, slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods. Excited trick-or-treaters may dart into the street unexpectedly, so motorists are urged to take their time and watch for pedestrians at all times.

Police also remind trick-or-treaters to travel in groups and avoid going alone. Never enter a stranger’s home, no matter how festive the decorations may appear and wait until candy has been inspected by a trusted adult before eating it. Staying aware of your surroundings and reporting any suspicious activity to local authorities can also help keep neighborhoods safe.

Throughout the evening, officers will increase patrols in neighborhoods to ensure that everyone can enjoy a fun and worry-free night.
