A suppression hearing was scheduled in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon for the man facing charges in connection with a fatal vehicular accident on Pembroke Road.
Isaiah Edwards is facing two charges of vehicular homicide and one count of operating a motor-vehicle while under the influence of a substance—though his defense attorney has argued that he was not under the influence when the fatal collision occurred.
The wreck itself happened on May 5 of this year, in the 1000 block of Pembroke Road when Edwards reportedly struck several bicyclists. Two of the cyclists, 31-year-old Marlene Martin and 34-year-old Rachel Hoover, where both rushed to Nashville hospitals but would ultimately die of their injuries.
During a preliminary hearing, details emerged that Edwards had been running down to Hucks while on break while working at a local industry, and he informed officers that he had dropped his work badge. When he bent to retrieve it is when the collision reportedly occurred. The defense argues that Edwards being at work would indicate he wasn’t under the influence at the time.
Law enforcement has reported that due to field sobriety tests and other factors at the scene, they charged Edwards with third-offense operating a vehicle under the influence at the time of the crash. He would later be indicted by a grand jury on the vehicular homicide charges.
In court Wednesday, defense attorney Olivia Adams requested that a date for a suppression hearing be set.
That suppression hearing was set for November 20 and 1:30 p.m.
