Kentucky’s Attorney General sues Roblox for reported child exploitation

Roblox is a popular gaming platform among children, and on Tuesday, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced a lawsuit against the platform for being a reported environment for child exploitation.

According to a news release from Coleman’s office, nearly two-thirds of all kids in the United States between the ages of 9 and 12 play games on Roblox. Coleman’s lawsuit alleges that Roblox creates spaces for predators and people with links to terrorist organizations; allows predators to target and groom young victims; fails to protect children and fails to inform parents of the platform’s dangers.

Coleman’s office also shares that earlier in the year, a Kentucky man with connections to an extremist sextortion group was arrested. Roblox was reportedly one of the platforms the group used for communication.

Coleman claims Roblox violates Kentucky’s Consumer Protection Act, and he has asked the court to permanently block the gaming platform from continuing unlawful conduct in Kentucky and to be penalized $2,000 for each violation.
