Police arrest Hopkinsville woman for drug trafficking

Hopkinsville Police arrested 40-year-old April Harris of Hopkinsville for drug trafficking after officers reportedly found cocaine in her car on Monday.

Officers responded to a Dollar General store on East 9th Street for reports of a shoplifter. At the scene, the store manager told officers that Harris had been trespassed from the store for shoplifting in the past.

Officers reported that Harris smelled like marijuana and was showing signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. A search of Harris’ person reportedly unveiled a straw with a powdery substance consistent with cocaine and a wrapper with a suspected control substance in it.

Harris was detained, and when officers attempted to search her car, she reportedly attempted to grab something from the car and began resisting. The search reportedly unveiled stolen fake eyelashes from the store, multiple small bags containing suspected cocaine, a bag of marijuana, rolling paper and a small scale.

Harries was charged with tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, unauthorized parking in a handicap zone, shoplifting, public intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing emergency responder violations.
