Members with the American Red Cross spotlighted their mission and their need for more volunteers at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting.
The Red Cross operates across the world, and local volunteer Ahmed Dalloul says the nonprofit focuses on supporting and organizing disaster relief efforts, blood drives, life saving training services and assistance to those in the armed forces.
As of October 2025, Dalloul says the Red Cross has assisted more than 260 families in western Kentucky during natural disasters so far this year. As winter approaches, he says they need more volunteers now more than ever to support those that could be impacted by possible inclement weather.
During the year, the Red Cross has also trained more than 6,800 people in first aid, CPR and other safety courses and has helped more than 580 service members and their families.
Regional Volunteer Services and Community Outreach Specialist Victoria Huffines then spotlighted some of the nonprofit’s volunteer needs. Huffines shared that 93% of the nonprofit’s work is done by volunteers, and folks can visit redcross.org/volunteer if they are interested in volunteering.
Huffines says the Red Cross has over 1,000 volunteer positions, so they are searching for people with a wide variety of skills. She says folks can choose where they want to volunteer, they can be deployed to volunteer across the country or help out right in their community.
Along with searching for volunteers, Huffines says their blood drive efforts continue and during the fall and winter months they often experience receive less donations. Those who don’t want to donate, but still want to support the blood drives can serve as Blood Donor Ambassadors.
Hopkinsville’s local Red Cross office is located at 709 South Main Street.
