Fort Campbell outlasts UHA in district volleyball match

In one of the best high school volleyball matches of the season, visiting Fort Campbell held off University Heights Academy 3-2 Tuesday night in a key District 8 match.

UHA won the opening set 25-21 before dropping the next two sets 25-23, 25-18.

However, the Lady Blazers forced the fifth and deciding set by taking a 25-21 win in the fourth set.

With the crowd on the edge of its seat, the Lady Falcons were able to escape with a 16-14 win in the final set to take the match.

The win improved Fort Campbell to 11-2 on the season and 4-2 in district play. However, Fort Campbell coaches said Tuesday night that due to the government shutdown, the team would not be able to play until the shutdown ends, which leaves the rest of the season in jeopardy.

Baylee Backes had nine kills and eight digs to lead the Lady Falcons. D’Lyla Melton and Ava Moore each had eight kills. Leilani Crawford also had six kills.

Defensively, Samantha Carrico had 18 digs and Kyndal Bradley had 14 digs and provided four aces.

UHA was led by Ava Crawford, who had six kills, six digs, and three aces. Megan Long added seven kills, two blocks, and four digs. Niyati Patel had five kills and 15 digs.

Cassidy Keller had 33 digs and Gretchen Durham had 25 assists and five aces for the Lady Blazers, who fell to 9-17 overall and 2-5 in district play.
