Hopkinsville Community College is celebrating, after officially opening the newly renovated Steve and Diane Thomas S. M. A. R. T. Lab in the Technology Center.
This two-story, re-imagined technical lab has been designed to serve as a hub for hands-on learning in high-demand career fields, housing cutting-edge equipment, supplies and tools. The lab is named for Steve and Diane Thomas, in honor of their $400,00 gift to the initiative, which was the largest individual contribution in the college’s history.
The $97,000 renovation was paid for with the college’s general project funds, while the Thomas gift will support ongoing technical program enhancements well into the future.
The lab itself will support such as HVAC, industrial maintenance, electrical technology and more, standing as tribute to the Thomases’ investment in the region.
HCC President and CEO Dr. Alissa Young says, “This transformative gift allows us to create a dynamic learning environment that will prepare students for successful careers while meeting the technical training needs of our industry partners.”
