Area golfers have tough day at Region 2 Tournament

It was a tough day on the course for area golfers Tuesday as no one from Hopkinsville, Christian County, University Heights Academy, or Heritage Christian Academy advanced out of the Region 2 Golf Tournament at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.

UHA’s Hayden Hunt missed qualifying for the KHSAA State Golf Tournament First Round by one stroke as the Blazers’ senior carded an 81, which was tied for 17th overall.

As a team, UHA finished seventh. Courtland Gibson shot an 83 and Jackson Flynn, Bryson Turner, and Cal Givens each shot an 84.

Hopkinsville took 12th as a team and were led by Henry Riggs’ 82, which was tied for 25th.

Isaiah Wood had an 84, Ryan Martin carded a 90, Matt Baker followed with a 93, and Sam Riggs shot a 98.

Drew Fincham led Christian County with an 89, which tied for 49th. The Colonels finished 18th as a team. Cansler Wells finished with a 98 and Chris Adcock came in at 101. Clayton Dixon and Reed Ezell both shot a 107.

HCA didn’t have a team score but was led by Cruz Egbert, who carded an 84, which was tied for 31st. Sawyer Lexey finished with a 119.

It was officially the end of high school golf at Christian County and Hopkinsville high schools, which will consolidate into the Christian County Tigers next fall.

The last players representing Hopkinsville included Henry Riggs, Sam Riggs, Isaiah Wood, Ryan Martin, and Matt Baker.

The last players representing the Christian County Colonels included Fincham, Cansler Wells, Chris Adcock, Clayton Dixon, and Reed Ezell.

Owensboro Catholic won the team title, five shots ahead of Henderson County. Daviess County was 11 shots back in third place.
