The Hopkinsville Tigers found their passing game Friday night and hammered host Trigg County 55-28 in a high school football game at Perdue Field.
Sophomore quarterback Jasiah McCarley threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns and the Tigers improved to 3-1 on the season.
McCarley’s favorite target was Tremayne Clay, who caught five passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, James Bradley Jr., caught two passes for 132 yards and two scores. Bradley, Jr., also led the Tigers’ rushing attack with 79 yards and a score on 11 carries.
For the game, the Tigers rolled up 470 total yards, including 379 through the air. Trigg County was able to get 304 yards, including 171 passing.
Hoptown opened up a 14-0 lead on a 33-yard pass from McCarley to Clay. Bradley Jr., scored on a 17-yard run.
After Trigg drew within 14-7 on a 14-yard pass from Caden Scott to Ahmari Alexader, Bradley and McCarley hooked up for a 60-yard scoring pass for a 21-7 advantage.
The Wildcats (1-3) came right back with a 23-yard pass from Scott to Peyton Williams.
Bradley struck again on a 72-yard scoring pass from McCarley for a 28-14 lead and Jeremiah Smith made it 34-14 on a 9-yard run.
Alexander scored on a 7-yard run to draw within 34-21, but Hoptown linebacker Foster Jackson picked off a pass and ran over a defender on the way for a 30-yard interception return for a score to make it 41-21.
Scott threw his third touchdown pass, this time a 12-yarder to Deonatae Edison to draw within 41-28.
But McCarley found Clay on a 50-yard scoring toss and back-up quarterback Nehemiah Bailey tossed a 55-yard touchdown pass to Clay to finish out the scoring.
Gavin Harton had seven extra-point kicks for the Tigers. Brody Renfroe connected on all four of his point-after kicks for the Wildcats.
Scott finished the night with 171 yards passing for Trigg.
Hopkinsville is scheduled to play host to South Warren on Sept. 19. Airtime is scheduled for 7 p.m. with airtime at 6:30 p.m. Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
