New CCHS Executive Principal visits with Hopkinsville Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville got a visit from Ken Carver recently, the man who will serve as the Executive Principal of the consolidated Christian County High School when it opens, and he gave an overall update on that process.

Carver is no stranger to consolidation—he helped navigate very similar waters when two schools combined in Muhlenberg County while he was a principal there. Carver says it can be a delicate process, as they want to ensure that the legacy of both schools survive, but in the end, they were able to unite two schools successfully, and he intends to make sure that happens here.

He says construction of the new school is chugging right along, and he believes its going to be a phenomenal building that brings phenomenal education to this community.

He says while they are set up with an academy model of learning, where students will choose a pathway to guide their learning, that doesn’t eliminate the needed standards of learning, such as your standard math, English, science and the like. Carver says students will have a chance to leave their chosen academy to take other necessary classes, such as physical education or arts.

Carver says safety is an area of high priority not just for him, but everyone involved with Christian County Public Schools, and they’ve worked to make sure this school building is state-of-the-art for safety.

Carver also highlighted how students won’t be trapped into a single pathway—if that student starts a pathway and then decides it’s not for them, they can change to new pathway that better suits them.

Carver will be the head of a large staff, which will include several assistant principals that will lead the different academies.
