Lockdown at Southside Elementary in Hopkins Co. results in charges against Morton’s Gap woman

A woman is facing numerous charges following a disturbance that resulted in an active lockdown at Southside Elementary School in Hopkins County Thursday.

According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, investigation determined that a parent of a child who is enrolled at the school, 37-year-old Carrie Gamblin, entered the school and allegedly made false, alarming statements to office staff, resulting in a lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The School Resource Officer at Southside Elementary responded quickly, determining there was no immediate threat to the campus. Both the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department and Madisonville Police Department responded to the scene.

Gamblin was arrested and charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, falsely reporting an incident which generates an emergency response and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department thanked the SRO, Madisonville police and the Hopkins County Board of Education for their cooperation throughout the incident for the safety of students and school staff.
