United Way of the Pennyrile gets annual campaign underway with big goals and big possibilities

There was an explosion of cheer, celebration and most importantly—pink, at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Hopkinsville Thursday morning, as the United Way of the Pennyrile kicked off their annual fundraising campaign.

The United Way of the Pennyrile supports 16 partner agencies in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties, which means each year they take on the monumental task of raising enough funds to provide what those non-profits needs to be successful.  And those non-profits include agencies such as the Aaron McNeil House, the Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center, Trace Industries, the Christian County Rescue Team, the Boys and Girls Club, Kentucky Legal Aid and many more—so they’re supporting and uplifting people right here in this community every day.

Campaign Co-Chairs Bri Smith and Abigail Landrum have hit the ground running for this effort, and Thursday morning, they highlighted their Barbie-themed campaign, with the tag line of “Give Unlimited Possibilities”.

Sanctuary, Inc. is one of the United Way’s partner agencies, and Executive Director Heather Lancaster says they recently launched their Empowered to Work Professional Wardrobe and Closet, and that’s been thanks their community partners. She says it’s just another way they can set up their clients for success.

A fashion show was held with 11 models, showcasing some of the professional wear that is available for survivors to choose from. Before announcing the fundraising goal, Smith and Landrum were excited to announce that thanks to pacesetter fundraising, they’ve already raised roughly $235,100 as of Thursday morning.

It is their hope to raise $715,000 before the campaign comes to an end later this year, and United Way Executive Director Melanie Noffsinger urged everyone to donate what they can to the cause, and there are many ways to do that.

Anyone interested in donating to the cause, volunteering with the United Way or just looking to see who the partner agencies are and what they do, can contact the United Way of the Pennyrile on Facebook or call them at (270) 886-8171.
