The last remaining defendant in the 2021 murder of Adrian Acree entered a guilty plea to his role in the events on Jones Street in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
Dekorian Daniel appeared alongside his defense attorney and special prosecutor Zac Greenwell, the former of which detailed the terms of the plea agreement. Originally charged with complicity to murder, Daniel pled guilty to the charges of facilitation to murder and complicity to tampering with physical evidence. Those charges come with a recommended sentence of 10-years in prison.
Those are similar terms to an agreement that was accepted by Daniel’s co-defendant, Jaila Sherrod, and the Commonwealth is opposed to any forms of probation or early release.
Daniel entered his guilty plea with a quiet “yes.”
Final sentencing will take place quickly, with a hearing set for September 4, and Greenwell informed that judge that the victim’s mother will likely speak at that hearing, as she is not in favor of this agreement.
Daniel and Sherrod pled guilty to their roles in luring Acree to Jonest Street in 2021, where Cortez Hairston Jr. would fatally shoot him. Hairston was found guilty and convicted for murder following a week-long trial in October of last year, and he was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
