Christian Fiscal Court made quick work of their agenda for a special-called meeting Friday morning—the only thing on the agenda was setting the property tax rate for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
That was a second-reading of the tax rate on real property, and it sets that rate at 16.7 cents per $100 of assessed value—that’s a reduction in the rate, which was 17.6 cents, and it will generate roughly $8.5 million in revenue, as read by Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam.
While that reflects a growth in revenue, due to an increase in property value assessments and growth to the overall tax base in the county, Judge Gilliam says the reduction in the rate is the largest the fiscal court has done in about 25 years.
The tax rate on motor vehicles and water craft would be 11.6 cents per $100 of assessed value, unchanged from the prior year. The rates were approved unanimously by magistrates Friday morning.
