Judge Gilliam talks property tax rate decrease, insurance changes

Christian Fiscal Court will need to have a special-called meeting to pass the lowered property tax rate on second-reading, and the Judge-Executive spoke on how they’re glad to keep the lowering trend going.

Speaking with WHOP recently, Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam detailed how his recommendation was the lower that rate on real property from 17.6 cents per $100 of assessed value down to 16.7 cents, which reflects their biggest reduction to date of that rate.

He says he knows that people are battling inflation, new property value assessments and more, but this reduction shows that Christian County’s tax base as grown, as they were able to lower it will still taking the four percent revenue growth.

Judge Gilliam says they’ll need that extra revenue heading in the future, because things aren’t getting any cheaper and a change in how insurance works could be a challenge, should the county face any natural disasters.

That special-called meeting will be held on August 22.
