The Kentucky Public Service Commission issued an order on Monday, denying Atmos Energy’s initial base rate increase request and instead approved a smaller increase.
Atmos Energy is a natural gas provider based in Dallas, Texas with multiple locations in western Kentucky including Hopkinsville. In September 2024, the energy provider submitted a request to increase its base rates to the commission.
According to the commission, the proposed increase would result in Atmos Energy generating around $33 million more in revenue and customers would see a rate increase of $9.59 per month.
Instead, the commission authorized a rate increase will generate around $15 million more in revenue and residential customers will see a rate increase of $5.70 per month.
Along with the rate adjustment, the commission raised the annual cap for Atmos’ Pipeline Replacement Project to $40 million.
