The Hopkinsville-Christian County YMCA has been busy all summer and Program Director Spencer Perry appeared on WHOP to talk about what they have in store as the school year gets underway.
Next week, students across the county will be returning to school and Perry says they will be hosting a Back to School, Back to the Gym joining special from August 15 to the 31 where the joining fee be $10. Then on Wednesday, the YMCA’s meal program resumes which allows children to come and get a meal Monday through Friday.
For a spot to hang out after school, Perry says their Teen Center will be reopening on September 13. The center has a ping-pong table, video games, televisions, board games and more. The center is open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. during week days and is open to those between the ages of 12 and 17.
After school, students can also get tutoring at the YMCA, and Perry say they are currently looking for more teachers and teaching assistants who specialize in certain academic subjects. The YMCA’s tutoring and enrichment program starts on September 15.
Perry also spotlighted their Rock Steady Boxing Program. The program is for those with Parkinson’s Disease and Perry says it focuses on improving the patient’s stability and strength.
Then to remember the lives lost in September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the YMCA is hosting a 9/11 Prayer and Tribute Workout on September 6 at the Stadium of Champions. Perry says the prayer will be at 7:45 a.m. that morning and the workout will follow at 8 a.m.
