During Thursday’s Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear announced that yet another fiscal year ended with a surplus to the General Fund.
In fact, it was a General Fund surplus of roughly $313.5 million, which governor called tremendous news, saying $251.3 million will be deposited into the Budget Reserve Trust Fund, and the remaining $62.1 million will fund necessary government expenses.
Beshear says the surplus reflects not just more growth than they projected—it shows that government agencies, legislators and officials worked to be outstanding stewards of public dollars.
The governor also urged individuals impacted by flooding in April and tornadoes in May to apply for Public Assistance funding through FEMA. For the May 16-17 severe weather and tornadoes, the deadline to apply for Individual Assistance has been extended to August 22
