Christian Fiscal Court to consider a reduction in the property tax rate

Christian Fiscal Court will soon need to consider its property tax rate, and it’s looking like the Judge-Executive will recommend a reduction in that rate.

Right now, the rate is set at 17.6 cents per $100 of assessed value, and was actually lowered from 18.1 cents in 2024. Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says he will recommend yet another lowering of that rate, while still reflecting a four percent increase in revenue.

He says this is made possible due to continued growth to the tax base itself and assessments conducted by the PVA, and he believes it shows that Christian County is in an economic boom.

Fiscal Court magistrates have already approved the budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year in the amount of $52 million, but now they’ll likely consider the tax rate in the coming weeks.
