Cattlemen’s Association invites community to 26th annual rodeo

For a weekend of fun and competition, the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association is inviting the community to its 26th annual Lonestar Rodeo.

Association members Jason Jenkins and Matt Futrell appeared at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville Rotary Club meeting to spotlight what their organization does and the upcoming rodeo. The association supports local beef farmers and provides academic scholarships for students.

Jenkins shared that this year’s rodeo is going to feature a concert by country artist Josh Weathers which will conclude night one.

Along with live music, the rodeo is set to include bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls breakaway roping, muley roping, cowgirls barrel racing, bull riding and entertainment from Rodeo Clown Mighty Mike Wentworth. Jenkins says the rodeo draws in competitors and attendees from across the country. At last year’s rodeo he says they had 276 contestants that were from 16 states and Canada.

Beyond it being a fun time, Jenkins says the rodeo helps the association raise funds for scholarships. Over the past 26 years, Jenkins says they have given out around $160,000 in scholarships.

Before the rodeo starts, Jenkins says they are planning to host a performance for children with special needs. Jenkins says they will host a modified version on the rodeo that will include a little fair and hay rides.

The rodeo is set for August 15 and 16 at the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds. Rodeo and concert tickets are available at lonestarrodeoco.com.
