The Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife Resources is calling all fishing mentors—you could have a chance to win a prize package that include a kayak, just by taking a first timer fisher out this summer.
According to a news release, this “Mentor to Win” contest is designed to encourage experienced anglers to introduce new folks to the fun of fishing. The contest is free to enter and open to anyone who is licensed to fish in Kentucky for the 2025-2026 license year, the contest winner will receive a prize package that includes a new kayak—paddles included—personal flotation devices and two spinning rod and reel combos.
Anglers 16-years-old and up can be a mentor to a new fisher, who must also be 16-years-old or older, at least once through August 31. Both mentor and mentee must have a valid fishing license, and the new angler must have never purchased a license or having not purchased an annual one in the last three years.
The mentor will use the MyProfile portal on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website to enter the name and identification number of the person that they took fishing. Mentors can enter as many times as they like by taking multiple people fishing.
