HFD conducts water rescue, extinguishes house fire Saturday

Heavy rains quickly made travel treacherous in some parts of Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon, including on North Main Street, where a woman had to be rescued from her vehicle.

According to Hopkinsville Fire and EMS Captain Payton Rogers, fire fighters responded to the area of North Main Street near Concord Lane where a vehicle had stalled out in water in the roadway that was approximately two feet deep. A woman in her 60’s was rescued from the vehicle, and she did not require transportation to the hospital.

At the same moment crews were responding to the water rescue, firefighters also responded to calls of house fire on Quincy Driver. Upon arrival, they found a fire in the crawl space that was reportedly caused when insulation was ignited by a poorly vented dryer vent hose.

The fire was quickly extinguished with no damage to the home, or any injuries reported.
