Dog Days of Summer event at animal shelter sees good turnout, pets adopted

The 400-Mile Yard Sale is wrapping for another year, but it served not just as a vehicle for bargain hunting—it also was the host for numerous fundraising efforts for non-profits.

That includes the Dog Days of Summer event that was held all weekend at the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter, where they invited vendors to come set up while they offered reduced costs on adoptions, microchipping and nail trimming services and more.

The rain did put a bit of a damper on the event, but Director Melissa Goff says that didn’t stop a lot of folks from turning out and supporting their local animal shelter.

All money raised during the event goes back into support the Get ‘Em Done program, which is a spay or neuter program that works to get animals spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter to help cut down on pet over-population. Goff says they’re getting the majority of animals done before they leave, so every little bit of support for that cause helps.

She says they adopted out 29 animals during the Dog Days of Summer event—if you missed out being able to support the cause, you can reach out to the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter at anytime to make a donation to the Get ‘Em Done Program.
