Colonels see season end in 2-0 loss to Henderson

The Christian County Colonels and Henderson County Colonels got into a pitcher’s duel Monday morning in the quarterfinals of the Region 2 Baseball Tournament at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.

Unfortunately for the southern-most Colonels, Henderson made their hits count in a 2-0 win that ended Christian County’s season.

Aiden Lewis pitched a complete game three-hitter for Christian County. The senior left-hander struck out seven and walked two in six innings, but suffered the loss.

Henderson struck first in the bottom of the first as leadoff batter Maxton Meadows reached on an error and came around to score on a ground out by Hunter Evans.

Christian County threatened in the top of the second inning as Blake Boehman singled to lead off the frame. Layton Creamer walked with one out and Thad Toliver moved both runners up a base with a sacrifice bunt. However, Gage McCart grounded out to third base to end the threat.

A two-out rally in the top of the third also was squelched by Henderson. Christian County’s Sebastian Dazey and Gage Montes hit back-to-back singles and both runners moved up a base due to a Henderson error. However, Boehman flew out to end the inning

Henderson made it 2-0 in the third as Meadows reached on an error, went to second on a passed ball and then stole third. He came in to score on a ground out to first base.

In the seventh inning, Christian County threatened again as Lewis walked with two out and courtesy runner Andrew Fincham moved to second after Dazey was hit by a pitch. However, Henderson County pitcher Evan Henshaw got a strikeout to end the game.

Dazey, Montes, Boehman, and Creamer had Christian County’s hits. All of them came off winning pitcher Cole Thompson, who went 6 2/3 innings and struck out three and walked three.
