The Tennessee Valley Authority says they’ve got good news for the recreation season in the summer—their reservoirs are full and ready for some fun.
The TVA manages an integrated system of 49 dams and reservoirs, including 652 miles of the Tennessee River between Knoxville, Tennessee and Paducah. Part of that management includes monitoring the river and reservoirs levels, and then lowering them in the fall at the height of hurricane season and raising them again when rain season is at its heights.
River Forecast Center Manager Ben Heath says almost all reservoirs are at summer levels, which means things are looking good for some summer fun, and they’ll keep an eye on those levels in the coming months.
He urged folks to go online to TVA.com and check out reservoirs and lake updates and familiarize yourself with the water release schedules in the name of safety.
The TVA recently opened the River Forecast Center—an investment of $2.2 million—where TVA staff can observe and manage the entire system from one room.
