Friday evening was the night for graduations locally, and that includes at University Heights Academy, where 38 seniors accepted their diplomas and headed out into their futures.
Those 38 seniors boasted of many accomplishments, including a truly impressive amount of scholarship money earned of just over $1.6 million, which equates to roughly $41,500 per student. The class of 2025 also was proud to have three Valedictorians in Luke Humphries, Jeevan Poulose and Susan Sargeant, with Eli Finch the Salutatorian.
Humphries reflected fondly on his time at UHA, saying he has always been moved by how much the staff and educators truly care about their students, even when they’re not at their best, and he’ll keep their lessons with him.
The Norman J. Wiedmer Faculty Award was presented to Jessica Cannon by Headmaster Tonya Oakley, who also recognized the Head of Upper School, Marvin Denison for his 50 years of dedicated service to University Heights. She then presented Luke Humphries with the Head of School Award, saying that while his talents are gift, his kindness is a choice that he should be proud of.
Poulose told his fellow classmates to remember all the versions of themselves they have been, as they look forward to the them they will become.
The D. A. R. Citizenship Award went to Humphries and Griffin McCoy.
Sargeant says she has no doubt the Class of 2025 will go on to do truly amazing things, and she especially thanked the parents for all the support and love they have given over the years.
Headmaster Oakley says it has been an honor to play even some small role in the lives these students will go on to lead, saying they bring great pride to not just UHA and their families, but to the community as a whole.
