Details released in Liberty Street shooting

The Hopkinsville Police Department has released details on a shooting incident on Liberty Street Wednesday that resulted in one arrested and another flown to the hospital.

According to the police report, officers responded to the 200 block of Liberty for reports that Jaleon Dyess had been shot, sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck. He was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

He was able to identify 21-year-old Shadymon Buckner of Hopkinsville as the alleged shooter.

Officers located Buckner, who reportedly told officers she had gotten into a physical altercation with Dyess when she shot him, but witnesses at the scene said there had been no physical conflict happening when the shooting happened.

Buckner allegedly told officers where she hid the gun, and a search of that location did end in officers recovering a firearm. It reportedly matched a shell casing that was found at the scene.

Buckner is currently facing a first-degree assault charge.
