Goins heading to HHS, Owen steps in as HMS principal

Christian County Public Schools have announced some leadership changes in the district, as Hopkinsville Middle Schools principal steps out and another steps in.

According to a news release, HMS Principal Andrew Goins announced his resignation, effective June 30—and current Millbrooke Principal Renikka Owen will take up the HMS principal position, effective July 1. She will be serving in an interim capacity, but she’s been the principal at Millbrooke since 2020 and served as assistant principal before that.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel said of Goins, “We are grateful for Mr. Goins’ leadership and dedication at Hopkinsville Middle. He successfully led last year’s facility transition to the new campus and worked tirelessly to unite the staff and students throughout the process. He made a lasting impact on the school community, and we’re excited to see him continue to grow as a leader in his new role at the high school level.”

Goins isn’t going far—he will rejoin the administrative team at Hopkinsville High School for the upcoming school year.

Bentzel goes on to call Owen a proven leader who brings passion for student achievement and dedication to the role, saying, “Her experience at the elementary level and her ability to connect with students, families, and staff make her an excellent fit to lead Hopkinsville Middle School. We are confident she will continue to build on the great work happening at HMS and continue moving the school in the right direction.”

Owen herself says, “I am honored to serve as the Interim Principal of Hopkinsville Middle School—a place that holds a special place in my heart. This opportunity is incredibly meaningful to me, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. It’s a blessing to return and serve the school that helped shape who I am today.”
