Community shows up for blood drive in support of Chase Pemberton

The Pemberton family is thanking the community for the tremendous support and turnout that happened for the blood drive held in honor of Chase Pemberton, a local man undergoing treatment for leukemia.

According to a news release, 144 people turned out for the blood driver that took place last Monday at First Christian Church, with 93 able to give blood, while others were unable to donate for various reasons.  Although the blood drive ended at 6 p.m., the last donor left around 8 p.m.

Blood Assurances, who hosted the drive, believes they broke a record for one of their largest blood drives. They plan to host a second drive for those who were unable to give at the time, with details coming soon.

Chase is O negative, and 34 donors were also 0 negative. This is impressive because only 7 percent of the population is O negative and they only can receive negative blood transfusions.

Chase was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and is receiving blood and platelets almost daily.
