President Trump approves emergency declaration for Kentucky

President Donald Trump has approved an emergency declaration for Kentucky following severe weather and now the ongoing flood threat.

According to a new release from FEMA, federal disaster assistance has been made available to the Commonwealth to support response efforts in areas that were impacted by Wednesday’s severe storms and now those areas impacted by major flooding.

The President’s action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to alleviate the hardship caused by the emergency on local citizens and provide assistance to save lives, protect property and lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe.

Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize and provide equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, under the public assistance program, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding.

The approval is for all 120 counties in Kentucky.
