The City of Hopkinsville earned the 2024 Tree City USA recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Arbor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit organization that encourages towns and cities to use trees to strengthen their communities. Hopkinsville has received the award for seven consecutive years because of its commitment to planting, growing, and maintaining trees.
A news release from the City of Hopkinsville says trees planted in neighborhoods have proven to negate storm water runoff, improving air quality and mental health. If trees are planted in the right places, they can also positively affect homeowners’ energy costs and property value.
Mike Perry, the Public Works Director says, “We are honored to receive the Tree City USA designation once again, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a greener, healthier Hopkinsville. Trees play a vital role in improving air quality, managing stormwater, and enhancing the overall look of our community.”
