Two Hopkinsville High School wrestlers came up just one victory short from the podium on Thursday at the Girls’ KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington.
Isabell Walker and Rheanna Walker both went 1-2 at the meet in the 107- and 114-pound divisions, respectively.
Isabell Walker won her opening match by fall over McCreary Central’s Brooklyn Sammons 24-9. She then lost by fall to Woodford County’s Ana Tierney in the quarterfinal. In the consolation round 2, North Oldham’s Iris Wells won by fall over Isabell Walker.
Meanwhile, Rheanna Walker fell to Boyle County’s Lyla Smith by fall in her opening match. However, in the consolation round 1 match, the Lady Tigers’ grappler won a 6-0 decision over Walton-Verona’s Emily Stephenson. Samantha Oliver of Scott County eliminated Rheanna Walker in the consolation round 2 11-2.
Hoptown’s Anna Clark wrestled at the 152-pound division and dropped both of her matches.
Pike County Central’s Bralyn Maynard defeated Clark by fall in the opening match. Lafayette’s Parfaite Eliada defeated Clark in the consolation round 1 by fall.
Lafayette won the team title with 131 points, followed by Taylor County with 118 and Boyle Count with 81. Hopkinsville finished 56th with five points.
