Crofton man federally sentenced on gun charge

A Crofton man has been federally sentenced for illegally possessing a firearm after having previously been convicted of felony offenses.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Kentucky, 27-year-old Earl Ray Cook Jr. of Crofton was sentenced to six years and five months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally possessing a handgun and its ammunition in January of 2024 in Christian County. 

Cook is prohibited from having a firearm due to previously being convicted of two counts of first-degree possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia while armed, theft of identity, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, third-degree assault and first-degree fleeing or evading police.

There is no parole in the federal system.
