Colonels’ Miller wins region wrestling title; CCHS takes 3rd as a team

Seven Christian County High School wrestlers qualified for this week’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Tournament with their finishes Saturday at the Region 1 Tournament at Paducah Tilghman High School.

Dane Miller was the Colonels’ lone region champion as he improved to 33-5 on the year with a 7-3 decision over Union County’s Carter Thomas in the 144-pound championship match.

Tay Martinez took third place in the 165-pound division as he defeated Fort Campbell’s Adyn Laird 10-4 in the consolation final.

DeAsian Harris also took home a bronze medal when he defeated Calloway County’s Lane Parrish 13-4 in the 190-pound consolation final.

Anthony Velasco continued his impressive season as he took fourth in the 113-pound division.

Kevondre Young (126), Deacon Harrison (150), and Treshan Crenshaw (285) also qualified for the state tournament with fourth-place finishes in their respective divisions.

Isaiah Davidson barely missed qualifying for the state meet as he took fifth place in the 215-pound division and Jaiden Williams took sixth in the 175-pound division.

Other Christian County wrestlers in the region meet included Malachi James (106), Nathan Harrison (120), Braylan Patla (132), Marquis Hart (138), and Bosa Ogbes (157).

The Colonels finished third as a team with 151 points. Union County won the team championship with 339 points. Paducah Tilghman was second with 254.5 points.

The KHSAA State Tournament is scheduled to be held at Alltech Arena beginning Thursday in Lexington.
