The Department of Defense Education Activity has issued a letter to Department of Defense schools, which includes schools on Fort Campbell, directing officials to comply with recent Executive Orders signed by President Donald Trump.
In a letter to parents and guardians signed by Director Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, officials state that DoDEA is a conducting an operational compliance review to ensure alignment with those executive orders. As part of the review, library or information center books possibly related to gender ideology or “discriminatory equity ideology topics”, such as race, gender, sexual identity and more.
DoDEA’s curriculum and instruction team, using definitions from the executive orders, identified a number of items that will be reviewed and relocated.
The Secretary of Defense has also issued guidance to all Department of Defense agencies that prohibits the use of official resources to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months.
Director Narvaez states they are working with region, district and school leadership during this process, to ensure there are consistent policies and practices in place that comply with current guidance and executive orders.
