The University Heights Academy Blazers have turned over the District 8 basketball apple cart.
Tylin George had 31 points and Elijah Walton added 19 to lead UHA to a 68-56 boys’ District 8 basketball win over Christian County Friday night in Lyle Dunbar Gym.
The Blazers improved to 7-11 overall with their third straight win. More importantly, UHA improved to 2-1 in district play. A win over Heritage Christian Academy on Feb. 13 by the Blazers would force a three-way tie for the district lead with the Colonels and Hopkinsville. The top seed would be the team with the highest RPI at the end of the year. Currently, Hopkinsville has the highest RPI among the three teams.
The Colonels, who fell to 5-20 overall and 3-1 in district play, led 32-26 at halftime. But UHA outscored Christian County 17-11 to force a 43-43 tie entering the final quarter.
George and Walton had several big buckets in the fourth quarter, but Ryan Luckey’s 3-pointer from the corner was a dagger and secured the win for the Blazers. Luckey finished with 10 points on the night.
UHA coach Terry Hayes said he was happy with the way his team played.
Christian County coach Dior Curtis said his team missed some opportunities in the final quarter and the game got away.
Christian County was led by Rahsean Stevenson, who finished with 23 points. Kam Williams had 14 points and Na’Darien Rowe added 13.
The Colonels return to action Feb. 15 at home against Bardstown. UHA is scheduled to play Tuesday at Hopkinsville.
