Human Rights Commission to host Black history trivia events

To celebrate Black History Month and test the community’s knowledge the Hopkinsville Christian County Human Rights Commission is hosting trivia events.

Commission Executive Director, Raychel Farmer says they are preparing for the 33rd annual Black History Trivia Bowl at Hopkinsville Community College on February 15. The trivia will include five teams of students and competitors will answer questions concerning Black history in the community and around the nation.

Farmer says they could use some more volunteers to help run the trivia bowl. Those interested in being a volunteer can attend training scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center.

Often times when the commission would advertise the trivia bowl, Farmer says they would receive calls from adults wanting to compete, but the competition is only for students. To give adults a chance to flex their knowledge, Black History Trivia Night is returning to Davo’s Restaurant.

The competition is set for February 20 at 6 p.m. and anyone can compete.

The commission’s inaugural trivia night went well, but Farmer says it did not have many competitors so she’s looking forward to seeing a bigger crowd. Along with competitive aspect, Farmer says the trivia events are chances for attendees to learn more about Black history.
