A Salem man is facing several charges following investigation into the assault of a sporting official at a high school basketball in Livingston County last week.
According to a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, they requested that Livingston County investigate an incident that happened in their jurisdiction at a high school varsity basketball game on January 28. The incident was captured on video and showed a male suspected throwing an object at a sports official from the stands.
That item also reportedly impacted a Lyon County High School basketball player on the gymnasium floor.
An investigation led to charges in Livingston County against 47-year-old Douglas Walker, who was identified as the suspect. He is facing charges of first-offense assault on a sports official, second-degree disorderly conduct and registered sex-offender-school restrictions.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office began their own investigation into Walker and were able to determine that Walker is a lifetime registrant on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry who is not allowed on school district property. It was also determined that he had allegedly attended a basketball game in Lyon County in December, despite his restrictions. He is facing an additional charge of registered sex offender-school restrictions.
