In the heart of rural America, you can find patience, persistence, and Westyn Miles’ deep love for soil rich in wisdom.
Miles is another student from Madisonville North-Hopkins High School, who has big goals for the future ahead of him. He is a 5th generation farmer who praises the experience he gained through working on his family’s operation. He says that by learning the mundane aspects of production, he has been able to grasp the industry from a few different angels.
Miles explains that not everyone will have the same experience he has gained through production, but it’s important he shares his perspective to motivate others to join the industry. One way Miles has been able to do this is through his role of networking in his FFA chapter and community.
Agriculture has come to mean a lot of things for Miles—he says it’s a way for an individual to take the land and create something despite financial gain. He goes on to explain how agriculture can be defined by a multitude of things, but it’s ultimately gleaning the reward from your investment.
While Miles already has a direct connection to agriculture, he plans to make production his own, through managing a 46-acre tract of land as part of his FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience. Miles says the knowledge he has gained through his entrepreneurship experience will be vital as he goes into future growing seasons.
Transitioning into the future of his current operation he plans to make his own definition of success, by possibly expanding the operation to match his goals with, of course, the strong foundation built from the producers before him.
Through Miles’ operation he has been able to use his unique perspective of the agriculture industry to create an opportunity for others to see invitations in progress.
