Christian County couldn’t muster the magic it has enjoyed recently and Henderson County used a familiar formula to pick up a 65-49 high school basketball victory Tuesday night at Lyle Dunbar Gym.
The northernmost Colonels used a stifling 2-3 zone defense and didn’t give Christian County any good looks at the basket for most of the game.
Meanwhile, Lacon McKinney scored 12 of Henderson’s first 24 points as the visiting Colonels jumped out to a 33-23 halftime lead.
Any hopes of a Christian County upset was dashed early in the second half as Henderson scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to push its lead to 43-23. The visiting Colonels led by as much as 22 points in the second half.
Behind the play of Kam Williams and Rahsean Stevenson, Christian County was able to get within 13 points midway through the fourth quarter, but that was as close as it would get.
Stevenson led the way for Christian County with 11 points. Williams finished with 10.
Christian County had won three of its last four games entering Tuesday’s game. The loss dropped Christian County to 3-12 on the season. Henderson won its fifth straight game and improved to 10-3.
McKinney and Samford signee Cooper Davenport each had 18 points for Henderson. Xavion Johnson added 13 and Dwaine Moss had 10.
Christian County is back in action Thursday night in a girls’/boys’ District 8 doubleheader at Heritage Christian Academy. The girls’ game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. The F&M Bank Pregame show will air at 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
