Representative Dossett takes new role as House Agriculture Committee Chair

The 2025 Short Session of the Kentucky General Assembly began earlier this week, with State Representative Myron Dossett, a resident of Christian County, in attendance.

Dossett has 19 years of experience in state legislation. During that time he has built strong relationships with fellow ag advocates, including Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell and Kentucky Ag Policy Director Brandon Reed, who he plans to continue working with in the new legislative session.

Dossett says his work with the Tobacco Settlement Oversight Committee paired with the life experience he gained from growing up in rural Christian County is going to be vital to him as he moves forward with his role as chair of the ag committee.

As he moves forward in his new position, Dossett says he plans to support economic development in the state by pushing the proposal for the Murray State University Veterinary School and the creation of ag-ready industrial sights.

Dossett highlights the successful $51 million of revenue created by the industry and plans to increase that number in the coming year. He also  emphasized the importance  of the state’s agriculture industry, saying agriculture is not just farmers working in fields, but is an industry that impacts every citizen in the state.

Looking at proposed legislation, lawmakers are working toward lowering the state income tax. Dossett explains that discussions have already taken place in the Appropriations and Revenue Committee earlier this week, and he expects new progress in the coming days. The bill aims to reduce the tax rate from 4% to 3.5%, which Dossett says is a move that can be beneficial to taxpayers with inflation on the rise.
