Western Kentucky reflects during third anniversary of 2021 deadly tornadoes

December 10 was the third-year anniversary of when two tornadoes, one of them a devastating and deadly EF-4, tore through eight counties in western Kentucky in 2021, resulting in millions of dollars’ worth of damage and dozens killed.

The Quad-State Tornado, as it has come to be called, forever changed the landscape of many cities in eight western Kentucky counties, including Mayfield, Dawson Springs, Bremen, Princeton and others, and remains heavy on the hearts of those who lost loved ones and the community as a whole. That’s not even accounting for the tornado that went through southern Christian County and into Todd County, causing devastation in Pembroke, though blessedly, no one was killed.

Governor Andy Beshear made a visit to several western Kentucky communities Tuesday, recalling that night and the events that followed.

He says the work continues, with eight new homes going to families in Mayfield just that Monday, and even more is set to take place in the coming year.

The governor once again promised that the work won’t stop until every single family who was left without a home is provided for.

The Governor trip also includes travel to his family’s hometown of Dawson Springs to visit the tornado memorial and observe a moment of silence, joining in with communities and individuals across the state who took a moment to remember that night from three-years ago, and those who we lost.
