Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is getting into the spirit of the season and is preparing to host some events to share their holiday cheer with the community.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson appeared on WHOP News and shared that on Friday they are hosting a Christmas Movie Night at the Thomas Street Recreation Center. Hudson says they will be having a showing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The movie starts a 7 p.m. but starting a 6 p.m. kids can come and write letters to Santa Claus.
Then next weekend, Hudson is inviting the community to the HES/Energy Net Nighttime Christmas Parade and the Community Christmas Tree Lighting on December 14 and then Santa Claus comes to town on December 15.
The parade gets underway at 5:15 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Hopkinsville. Hudson says this year’s parade will include around 90 floats. Once the parade concludes, folks will gather in Little River Park for the tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m.
Hudson says they have grown and decorated a Leyland Cypress Tree and Christmas parade Grand Marshal John Brame will flip the switch to illuminate the tree.
Then next Sunday, Santa Claus will be riding in the passenger seat of a Hopkinsville Fire Truck. Folks will be able to track him on a GPS on hoptowrec.com.
