Renovations continue at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and Mari-Alice Jasper recently appeared on WHOP News to provide a progress update.
The library has been closed this week while staff prepare for demolition to the second floor. Jasper says they have been focused on moving books, furniture and some of their services to the first floor.
Following the closure, Jasper says the first floor will look a bit different and be a little more crowded with services. The computer lab and the children’s area will be smaller, and the DVD collection will be moved to a more central location.
Renovations started around three months ago with demolishing the first-floor restrooms and the elevator. Jasper says the restrooms will have two stalls instead of one, diaper changing tables and be more accessible to people with mobility issues.
The elevator is set to be expanded and also be more accessible for those with mobility issues. Following renovations, Jasper says Youth Services will be upstairs and Adult Services will move downstairs. The second floor will also become home to a larger children’s area, a designated space for teenagers and an expanded community room.
The library reopens to the public on Monday.
