Marshall County ruined the Christian County coaching debut of Dior Curtis by handing the short-handed Christian County Colonels a 65-30 loss Tuesday night in the opening high school basketball game of the year.
The Colonels (0-1) started the scoring with a basket in the opening 5 seconds. However, the Marshals’ defense didn’t allow another Christian County basket for nearly 6:30 and grabbed a 15-5 lead after one quarter.
The Colonels, who were playing without seniors Kamren Williams and NaDaren Rowe, who were nursing injuries, struggled offensively as turnovers plagued the hosts. Christian County guard Darren Bigbee also picked up his third foul in the first quarter and had to sit most of the first half. Marshall County (1-0) took advantage and took a 39-14 halftime lead.
The Colonels opened the second half with a pair of 3-pointers from Bigbee and Zion Acree, but the Marshals recovered quickly and only allowed four more points in the period as they pushed their lead to 57-24.
Rahsean Stevenson led the Colonels with 10 points.
Kyzer Phillips and Tommy Robertson led the Marshals with 16 points each.
Christian County is back in action Thursday night at Murray State University against defending state champion Lyon County at 7 p.m. Our broadcast begins at 6:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
