Ohio County slips past Hoptown in OT

It was a tough opening night for the Hopkinsville Tigers, as the Ohio County Eagles claimed a 58-57 overtime high school basketball win Monday night in Hartford.

The game was close throughout with the Eagles hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the opening quarter to take a 17-15 lead.

However, led by the play of James Bradley and Jayon Bass, the Tigers battled back to take a 27-26 halftime lead and pushed their advantage to 42-40 after three quarters.

Ohio County turned up the defense in the fourth quarter, holding Hoptown to only nine points and tying the game at 51 at the end of regulation.

In overtime, the Eagles led by three late before Bradley cut the lead to one late. However, that was as close as the Tigers could get and Ohio County celebrated the victory.

Ohio County hit nine 3-pointers in the game including four by Alex Quisenberry in the second half or overtime periods. The Eagles hit six long-range shots in the second half or overtime.

Bradley led Hopkinsville (0-1) with 13 points. Bass and Layton Giltner each added 10 for the Tigers, who next play Friday night at Caldwell County.

Ohio County was led by Ryan Durham’s 18 points. Tate Abney and Alex Quisenberry added 16 and 14, respectively.

In the JV game, Hopkinsville claimed a 49-35 victory.
