The high school swimming season began Saturday with the Rick Cohn Invitational at Hopkinsville High School.
Muhlenberg County won the girls’ championship with 72 points, followed by Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Addison Peck led the Lady Colonels’ swimmers by taking 12th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 32.31. Addison Renshaw was 17th in a time of 34.17 and Sarah Kate Gilliam was 22nd in 35.47. Kaydence Harrison finished 26th in a time of 37.34 and Alyssa Mase was 40th in 57.63.
Peck took 17th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:17.15. Harrison was 28th in 1:28.33. Gilliams took 32nd (1:34.06) and Mase was 35th (2:11.70).
The Christian County “A” 200-yard freestyle relay team finished eighth with a time of 2:23.21. The 400-yard freestyle relay team was ninth in 5:44.92.
Renshaw took 14th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:40.97.
In the boys’ meet, Bowling Green swam away with a win with 116 points, followed by Muhlenberg County.
Shemar Barker led the Colonels. He finished 21st in the 50-yard freestyle in 31.08. His teammates Kolton Parker and Sam Peck took 26th and 29th with times of 34.60 and 36.86, respectively.
Barker took home 12th in the 100-yard breast stroke with a time of 1:35.44 and Parker was 15th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:36.15.
Peck finished 25th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:31.72 while teammate Jackson Downey was 26th in 1:38.18.
The Colonels’ 200-yard freestyle relay team was 11th in 2:29.96 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team was eighth in 5:10.35.
In the combined team scores, Bowling Green captured the win with 164, followed by Muhlenberg County (145) and Madisonville with 81.
