The Tennessee Valley Authority partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and Friends of Land Between the Lakes, to donate $100,000 to support the maintenance and preservation of cemeteries and cultural heritage sites at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
According to a news release from the TVA, the announcement was made at an event hosted at the Grand Rivers Community Center on Saturday and included LBL supporters, community members, and representatives from the partnering agencies.
TVA Board Member, Wade White says he hopes the grant will help the relatives of former residents care for the final resting places of their loved ones.
Friends of LBL Executive Director, Elaine Jackson says it’s an honor to partner with other organizations to care for the land that so many love and describes it as a dream being fulfilled.
Land Between the Lakes stretches from Kentucky to Tennessee and sits between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. It was designated as a national recreation area in 1963 and is home to hiking and trails, campgrounds, fishing spots, hunting areas a planetarium and much more.
