Tigers need win, Logan loss to have a chance for playoff bid

They say that football is a game of inches. Sometimes it comes down to hundredths of a point.

Thanks to Logan County’s upset win over Warren East last Friday night, the Hopkinsville Tigers’ football team is on the outside of the playoffs looking in as it takes the field tonight against Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park.

Hoptown, Logan, and Warren East are all 2-3 in Class 4-A, District 1. However, Hoptown’s RPI is .48261, which is just behind Logan’s .48802 and Warren East’s .53202. The Tigers will need to defeat PRP tonight and hope for a Logan County loss to South Warren to get into the playoffs as a No. 4 seed.

Hopkinsville enters tonight’s game at 3-6 and the Panthers are 1-8.

Tigers’ coach Dustin Lopez said records don’t mean a thing and he is expecting a fight out of PRP tonight.

Hoptown is coming off a 36-34 loss to No. 8-ranked Allen County-Scottsville last week and PRP fell 42-6 to Louisville St. Xavier. The Panthers have lost their last five games.

Tonight’s game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Airtime is 6:30 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
