Heritage Christian Academy and Union County will meet tonight for the Region 2 Volleyball Tournament championship at Hopkinsville High School.
The Lady Warriors improved to 23-5 with a straight set win over Caldwell County in the second semifinal game Wednesday night. HCA will play in its first Region 2 Volleyball Tournament championship game after beating the Lady Tigers 25-20, 25-22, 28-26.
A night after falling and hitting her head on the bleachers and having to sit out the Lady Warriors’ opening round game against Livingston Central, Katie Cansler returned for 17 kills and 11 digs.
Mya Goodwin also had a big game for the Lady Warriors with 16 kills and 18 digs.
The Lady Warriors led most of the first two sets but had to fight in the third set. Caldwell led 17-15 before a 5-0 spurt gave HCA a 20-17 advantage. HCA had match point a couple of times but the Lady Tigers were able to fight to tie the game and even took a 26-25 advantage.
However, Cansler and Goodwin each had kills and the Lady Warriors were able to secure the third set win.
It also was HCA’s defense, led by Hadlee Hayes, Allie Craft and Bralee Fowler that helped the Lady Warriors reach their first region championship game. Hayes had 20 digs, 13 assists and one ace, Craft had 14 digs and Fowler had six digs to go along with two blocks.
HCA coach Grace Stewart said reaching the region championship was a goal her team set at the beginning of the year.

The Bravettes (15-7) defeated Christian County 3-1 in the first semifinal on Wednesday and have won seven straight matches entering tonight’s 6 p.m. championship. HCA has won 10 straight matches dating back to Sept. 30. The two teams did not meet in the regular season.
